The show explores the different ways current artists use traditional, historical objects as points of reference.

The British Art Show is widely recognised as the most ambitious and influential exhibition of contemporary British art. Organised by Hayward Touring, it takes place every five years and tours to four different cities across the UK.

Shan made 400 porcelain fish. Each fish was hand-made and hand-decorated making them all a little bit different…a bit like the real fish in the sea.

Anyway now on to my next project. Im very excited to be working on a glass installation that Barts have commissioned me to create. It will be a wall hung ‘Garden’ piece, and is due to be installed in the next few weeks!

Recently installed in the Chemotherapy Department are three new interrelated commissions that each explore light, shadow and reflection while striving to bring echoes of the natural world into the hospital. This ensemble of works, which includes glass, porcelain, gilding, and silver leaf brings a restrained elegance and calm to the department with transparent, white, or highly reflective surfaces throughout.

For the entrance of the Chemotherapy Department, Shan Valla has made a work of soaring glass branches. Nestled at the base of a mini forest of transparent and silver stems stand a pair of gilded porcelain birds.

Shan has her first stand at Origin (stand L25) in Spitalfields, as well as showing some of her limited edition work at the Corfield Morris Neo Deco pop-up gallery on Rivington Street in Shoreditch.

A selection of Shans products will also be found at Curiosity a fleeting pop up shop on Clerkenwell Road.

Shan is launching ‘Sprig’ with Hidden Art Select 100% Design, and is delighted to be part of the first ever retail oppertunity at 100% Design, allowing visitors to buy amazing products at the show.
